“Microphotographs taken by the Rockefeller Institute of the so-called Triassic shoe of Nevada have been interpreted by some experts as establishing that fossil, now in the possession of John T. Reid of Lovelock, Nev., as a work of human manufacture.

This fossil or freak, which resembles a hand-welted sole with marvelous definitiveness of detail, was found embedded in Triassic rock, somewhere from 100,000,000 to 300,000,000 years old. The shoe, if it is a shoe, is older than the rock, because the rock must have formed over and around it by the precipitation of minerals from solution”….NYT Aug 13, 1922

The Apostle Paul defined faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. Merriam-Webster defines it this way in part;: “firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust
3 : something that is believed especially with strong conviction”.

Paul says that faith is based on evidence. Popularly it is said that Christians believe without evidence but that science is wholly based on facts, evidence and substance.

This popular belief is wrong in both respects; faith in God is built on evidence and belief in evolution and materialism is without facts or substance—or else the “facts” have been misunderstood, ignored or twisted.

With respect to God, Romans Chapter 1 says that God’s invisible qualities and Divine nature can be clearly understood by what has been made-so that man is without excuse.

Sir Isaac Newton put it this way:

” This thing [a scale model of our solar system] is but a puny imitation of a much grander system whose laws you know, and I am not able to convince you that this mere toy is without a designer and maker; yet you, as an atheist, profess to believe that the great original from which the design is taken has come into being without either designer or maker! Now tell me by what sort of reasoning do you reach such an incongruous conclusion?”
With respect to evolution natural selection has failed as an adequate mechanism to explain macroevolution and there is no known scientific explanation for the creation of life from non-life.

When it comes to the universe itself, the materialist essentially believes; in the beginning there was nothing—which exploded! When it comes to the origin of the universe and the mechanism for the macroevolution of plants and animals, evolutionists have to sustain themselves by faith! After all, the main scientific theory as to the origin of this universe (the big bang) requires one to accept that up to 96% of the universe is “invisible” and undetectable (dark matter and energy). In 1922, John T. Reid, himself a mining engineer, found the sole of a shoe encased in “Triassic rock” outside Lovelock, Nevada. If accepted, it would have as the NY Times article suggested; upset long held theories. This is why there was absolutely zero chance of the fossil being accepted as a shoe sole either then, or now.

This would be true even after an examination by one of the preeminent medical institutes of the time (Rockefeller Inst.) examined the object under very high magnification and took photographs clearly showing the stitching.

Before the microphotographs were taken, certain scientists pronounced it ”the most remarkable natural imitation of an artificial object they had ever seen”. No doubt they would have said the same thing even if it had had a Nike logo embedded.

Now, science had said that Triassic rock was up to 300,000,000 years old. The Bible says that they are less than 10,000 years old. Somebody’s way off!

But now we have science which we’re told relies on facts and data with the object in hand and with the results of high magnification from every angle with which to produce more facts and data to decide the question. But would science’s loyalty be to the facts and the data or to the paradigm;—materialism, evolution and a very old universe? Faith defines what one believes but therefore also defines those things one cannot believe.

According to the discoverer and others who saw the microphotographs, under magnification, “the holes punched in the sole for stitching show very clearly, and even the twist of the thread used in the welt is developed”.

In microphotograph LH1, the right hand path of the stitching is clearly visible. “The twist of the thread is plainly visible … In micrograph, LH3 the stitching shows as having been doubled up for a portion of the distance around the sole.

In microphotograph LH2 there is a perfectly clear reproduction of the thread used in stitching the sole to the upper, and the spacing is clearly shown until it disappears beneath a portion of the sole”…

Reid, further discussing the results of the scientific testing on the fossil with the NY Times said; “It seems quite unnecessary for me to dwell on the remarkable resemblance to our modern shoe leather, as it appears reproduced here, in that it duplicates exactly in all respects the process that takes place in worn out shoes.”

…”In microphotograph LH2 ½ we have reproduced a portion of that contained in LH2, only on a scale of twenty times the magnification of the original specimen. In this highly magnified picture, the twist of the thread is distinctly visible. Its warp is brought out in unmistakable prominence. This admits of but one interpretation, which to all must be readily apparent, that this is the sole of a shoe that was surely done by the hand of man.”

All but two paleontologists and geologists to whom Reid had taken the fossil prior to the analysis insisted that it was simply a “freak of nature”. Those who accept the current ruling scientific paradigm really had no choice other than to refuse to accept the fossil as a shoe sole. Their faith demanded it.

If the fossil shoe had been confirmed by science, then either modern shoe-making man lived hundreds of millions of years ago—or Triassic rock is quite a bit younger than had been thought. At that time, human civilization was believed to have been between 5,000 and 10,000 years old.

 

Miners Watch Formation of Anthracite Coal-Supposedly 200 to 300 Million Years Old Form in 4 Months

There have doubtless been many previous discoveries of unexplained artifacts (unexplained by current paradigm) that would give the fossil shoe discovery some support. About 46 years prior to the discovery of the fossil shoe by a mining engineer, in 1876, another seemingly impossible and relevant discovery took place in the Indian Ridge Mining Shaft of the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Co.

This particular out of place artifact was more than 50 feet long with a six inch diameter.

The article appeared in the Shenandoah Herald in March 1876. “Strange Statement—The Process of the Formation of Anthracite Coal Discovered in the Indian Ridge Shaft”.

It should be mentioned that anthracite was a type of coal thought to have formed on the latter end of the 200 to 300 million age range given for the fossil shoe.

A pipe had been installed in the mine for the purpose of diverting water from a nearby stream that otherwise would have continuously poured down upon the miners. After some time, this six inch pipe became clogged with reddish brown sediment from the stream reducing the pipe opening to about two inches. At that point, the flow was diverted and a new pipe was installed.

Four months later, a portion of the old pipe was taken down.

“when broken open the wonderful phenomenon presented itself that the sediment was gradually changing into what appears to be anthracite coal. About a half inch of the inside of the sediment lining the pipe had been changed into coal and the remainder was also gradually changing….The process of the formation is plainly seen in the sediment next to that which had already turned into coal.”

“….Samples of coal taken from the pipe have been tried on the blacksmith fire at the colltery, and it makes an exceedingly hot fire, but being of a softer nature then the natural anthracite, it clunkers badly.

Fortunately there are any quantity of samples of the wonderful formation, and those who are unwilling to believe without themselves seeing and touching can be accommodated…..A section of the pipe of about 16 feet long has been left standing in the shaft to see what results will follow…..”

Chances are, you have never heard of this “discovery” and it is doubtful that any follow-up research was undertaken. It should be noted that the discovery took place in a coal mine, so that there were plenty of people there who were very familiar with types of coal. You could imagine that if they had found a way to turn sediment into gold—and it didn’t mess with the paradigm, you would have heard of it.

Finally, the writer of that 1876 Shenandoah Herald article challenges the experts;

“if anthracite coal will form from sediment deposited by water when exposed to the action of the atmosphere under certain conditions for a period as short as four months, what becomes of all the pet theories of the geologist and mining engineers on the subject?

How about the great heat, the millions of years of time and tremendous, pressure which according to the various theories of the heretofore accepted authorities were necessary to account for our deposits of the finest and best fuel yet found?”
These stories have important ramifications in terms of how paradigm shifting or paradigm conflicting data and artifacts are approached by science. We have every reason to believe that few of them will see the light of day and then that even if they do, science will never accept them as genuine, no matter what the objective evidence might show. We have every reason to believe as well that there are dozens if not hundreds or thousands of other paradigm shattering artifacts that have been found that we will never see or hear about.

The shoe fossil discoverer, John Reid, wanted to donate the fossil to some “scientific museum” so that others could see and make up their own minds.

This was unlikely to happen for obvious reasons.

TOKYO, July 23 (UPI)‐:‐‐A Japanese scientist said today that a huge creature whose decomposed body was netted by a Japanese trawler off New Zeaand was a species of plesiosaurus, reptile thought to have been extinct for more than 100 million years.

Tokio Shikama, an authority on extinct animals and plants who is professor at Yokohama National University, gave his verdict after examining color photographs of the creature, which was later thrown back into the sea.

“It has to be a plesiosaurus,” he “These ‘These creatures roam the seas off New Zealand feeding on fish. They tend to be alone and are very cautious.”

The true plesiosaurus, a long‐necked reptile with large flippers, disappeared at the end of the earth's Cretaceous Epoch, 130 million to 140 million years ago.

Mr. Shikima said, however, that some simile reptiles may still inhabit the area where the creature) was found.

The Mysterious Egyptian Tri-Lobed Disc

In the first wing of the Egyptian Museum of the Cairo between two rooms close to the Momias Room, one cannot help but be surprised to see in a small display cabinet, although not without some difficulty caused by the reflections of the light on the crystal that covers it, a solitary object similar to a wheel or stone disc.

This strange object has disturbed and continues disturbing all the Egyptologists that have had occasion to study it at great length. The first of them was its discoverer, Brian Walter Emery, one of the most important Egyptologists of 20th Century and the author of a classic volume on Egyptology, Archaic Egypt, that continues to be, after many years, an important bibliographical reference for the study and an understanding of the origins of the Old Egyptian Civilization.

Making excavations in 1936, in the archaeological zone of Sakkara, he discovered the Tomb of Prince Sabu. He was the son of Adjuib Pharaoh, governor of the I Dynasty (3,000 B.C.).

Between utensils of funeral objects that were extracted, Emery's attention was powerfully drawn by an object that he initially defined in his report on the Great Tombs of the I Dynasty as: "... a container in the form of schist bowl...".

Years later, in his previously mentioned work, Archaic Egypt, he commented on the object with a word that perfectly summarizes the reality of the situation and the discomfort the object causes; "cachibache" (a small hole that threatens to become a much larger hole)"...

A satisfactory explanation has not yet been obtained on the peculiar design of this object...".

This object is approximately 61 centimeters in diameter, and 10.6 centimeters in height in the center. It is made of schist, a very fragile and delicate rock, which requires very laborious carving.

Its form resembles that of a plate or a concave steering wheel of a car, with a series of three cuts or curved "shovels" that resemble the helix of a boat, and in the center, an orifice with a rim that acts as the outside receiver of some axis of a wheel or some other unknown mechanism, arranged to turn.

As it is well known by all, the official position maintained by Egyptology with respect to the appearance and use of the wheel on the part of the Egyptians, is very clear and leaves no room for doubt. The introduction of the wheel in Egypt they assure us, coincided with the invasion of the Hycsos at the end of the Medium Empire, in 1640 B.C.,

They used it, on among other things, their military chariots.

The question then is inevitable: if it is not a wheel, what is the strange object that appeared in the Tomb of Prince Sabu, 1,400 years before the invasion of the Hycsos?
In spite of the complexity of this problem, the subject has become even more serious as a result of the technical studies that a variety of investigators have made, impelled by the surprising and strange design of this device.

 As well, the Egyptologist Cyril Aldred reached the conclusion that, independently of what the object was used for or what it represented, its design was without a doubt, a copy of a previous, much older metallic object.
 In fact, this schist wheel appeared in Tomb of Prince Sabu, along with other strange copper objects, practically the only metal that the Egyptians then knew.

The doubt that has been plaguing us is wondering how the ancient Egyptians could design so delicate and complex a structural object more than 5,000 years ago.

A structure that in the case of the three strange cuts or curved shovels, induces one to think almost immediately about the use of this object in an average liquid.

 This detail, next to the excellent orifice in the central part, makes us also suspect that this object is only a small part of a more complex mechanism, and that it was saved thanks to a stone reproduction for some unknown reason, made by an artist, with unknown tools.

But..., what mechanisms existed 5,000 years ago in the Valley of the Nile?
 

According to the typical and expected view of the archaeologists and pro-government Egyptologists, this object is no more than a tray or the pedestal of some candelabrum, with a design a product of blind chance".

Although by chance, this peculiar object closely mirrors the design of one of the pieces that Lockheed developed to be fitted hermetically within a full case of lubricant.

�One of the most unusual pieces is a strange circular object, fashioned in schist and with a central hub which gives it the appearance of having been designed to fit onto a pole.

Bearing in mind that it is of pre-dynastic date, circa 3000 BC, it represents supreme ability in working hard stone, the "lobes" looking as though they had been bent over. Indeed, it is possible that it is a copy of an original copper artifact.

One theorist who has attempted to explain its function is William Kay, an English engineer. He has suggested that it was actually a ritualistic tri-flamed oil lamp.

A wick system comprising six bundles of rushes, bound together, were held in place by the lobes and thus kept immersed in the oil. If the ends of the four bundles were separated sufficiently, then twelve separate flames may have resulted instead of three.

The numbers 3 and 12 are recognized as having symbolic significance for the ancient Egyptians. Bill Kay's concept seems entirely reasonable, especially in the light of a pole-supported oil lamp from Deir el Medina, also exhibited in the Cairo Museum.Ianlawton.com

 

Possible Usage for Tri-lobed Bowl

Emery (1972) suggests that the artifact may have been carved in the imitation of a metal vessel's form, with a center hole that was originally designed to fit on a pedestal.

Possible competition between metal and stone vessel artisans may have been one of the reasons for the development of artistic expression in ornamental stone vessel forms during the Early Dynastic Period (El-Khouli 1978).

William Kay has suggested that the vessel was a ritualistic tri-flamed oil lamp, in which bundles of rushes, immersed in oil, acted as the wicks.

These bundles of rushes were held in place by the lobes, and the vessel was suspended on a pedestal inserted through the center. Whether it was actually used for this purpose is uncertain.

 The fragile nature of such an intricately carved stone object greatly limits is practical usage and suggests a purely ornamental function, being of a religious or other such ritualistic purpose.
 Although it has been suggested the vessel was meant to be held on a pedestal, the center tube may also have been used as a stand for holding another vessel or object. Smith (1981) has suggested that the center tube was a container.

Tubes of rock were used by the ancient Egyptians to hold round-bottomed vessels, and there are many examples of these throughout the dynastic Egypt, including from the Early Dynastic Period (El-Khouli 1978).�

Purdue Researcher Verifies the Existence of 53 People Mentioned in Hebrew Bible

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Lawrence Mykytiuk cannot document that everything in the Bible took place. What the Purdue University Libraries professor can do is show you that many of the people written about did, in fact, exist.
“While some would put their hand on the Bible and really mean it when they take an oath, a few revisionist academics would throw it out and say, ‘That’s creative writing.’ I was looking for concrete, objective evidence outside of the Bible that would help build the case,” said Mykytiuk, an associate professor of library science.

Mykytiuk (pronounced MICK-ee-took) has added three names to the previously published 50 Old Testament individuals in the Bible, beginning with King David, all of whom he says he has verified through his research.
The three new people are Tattenai (also translated as Tatnai), a Persian governor during the time of Ezra (after the Babylonian exile); and two high officials of Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II: Nergal-sharezer, called the “samgar” official, and Nebuzaradan, “the chief of the guards.” A YouTube video is available here.

Tattenai is mentioned in the fifth chapter of the book of Ezra. He also is mentioned outside of the Bible in a letter on a clay tablet from Persian King Darius I the Great, in the year 502 B.C.
According to the Bible, Nergal-sharezer and Nebuzaradan were high officials of King Nebuchadnezzar II, who in 586 B.C. destroyed the First Temple, as well as Jerusalem, and exiled most of the remaining population of Judah.
They are mentioned at the scene of the destruction in Jeremiah 39:3 and 39:9, respectively, and Nebuzaradan also is mentioned in 2 Kings, Chapter 25. Their king included them in a contemporaneous list of his courtiers that was written on clay tablets.

Mykytiuk has written about his latest findings in Biblical Archeology Review.

“When you verify that a person existed, you’re not usually verifying that they did what the Bible says they did, because you don’t usually get that much information in the inscription or in the Bible,” Mykytiuk said.
“If you get the person’s name, his or her father’s name, and the person’s office or title, that doesn’t verify that they did certain things. But it can sometimes show they were in a position to do the things Scripture says they did. That’s often as far as you can go.

Still, there are some longer inscriptions from ancient Israel’s neighbors that mention people and events in the Old Testament, just describing them from a different point of view.”
When verifying an individual, Mykytiuk goes through a painstaking three-step process:

Data is checked to make sure it is from an authentic inscription and not forged. Settings from historical documents are matched up to confirm that the person’s time and socio-political “place” (such as the kingdom of Judah) are the same.
Mykytiuk considers a period of about 50 years between the person in the inscription and the person in the Bible as permissible, because an adult could be active for that amount of time.

At least three ways of identifying the individual in the Bible (such as the person’s name, the father’s name, and the person’s title) must match the same three identifying marks of the individual in the inscription. Three identifying matches are considered a lock, two are considered a reasonable hypothesis, or even a likely hypothesis for a match, but one is not enough.

“Sometimes the three-step process is not necessary, as when we know that the person in an inscription and the person in the Bible are both connected to a one-time circumstance or event that fits one and only one person,” Mykytiuk said.
“For example, Ahab, king of Israel, ruled during the period in which the famous battle of Qarqar was fought in 853 B.C. His Assyrian enemy wrote about “Ahab the Israelite,” one of the kings he fought in that particular battle. Therefore, Ahab, king of Israel in the Bible, and Ahab, the Israelite king at the battle of Qarqar in the Assyrian inscription, must have been the same person.

After interpreting the inscription according to data from other inscriptions outside the Bible, only then does he compare it to the Bible. “To use biblical data as a determining factor in interpreting an inscription, and then to claim that the inscription confirms the Bible, opens the door to circular logic,” he said.

It’s easy to go online and find long lists proclaiming that they are filled with many more verified biblical figures, but Mykytiuk says many of those lists include forged inscriptions and do not guard against inaccuracies.
He has published numerous articles on the subject, presented at academic conferences and taken questions from expert reviewers in biblical studies, ancient history, and archaeology, adjusting his criteria accordingly.
Mykytiuk can also read languages used in ancient texts, such as those on monuments, signet rings, and seal impressions in lumps of clay, called bullae (singular: bulla), which were used to seal documents.
The languages he uses to read ancient inscriptions and the Bible include ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. He also reads inscriptions in various Canaanite dialects and in other ancient languages, such as Phoenician. And in order to keep up with recent scholarship on inscriptions, he reads articles in a few modern European languages.

Although the Hebrew Bible names almost 3,000 people, Mykytiuk states that for an overwhelming number of these, it only gives the person’s name and does not supply enough specific information about them to identify them in any other writing.
The number of individuals for whom the Bible gives enough information to identify them specifically is far smaller, surely no more than a few hundred, he estimates. With 53 of the people mentioned in the Hebrew Bible now verified through years of research, Mykytiuk will move on to the New Testament, first with a BAR article on 23 verified political figures, then to another one covering about six religious figures.

In 2015, he published an article in BAR titled, Did Jesus Exist? Searching for Evidence Beyond the Bible.

He calls such verifications his passion and says it’s important because, “This evidence shows that it is not essential to have religious faith in order to understand and accept much of what the Bible presents.

S8intcom initially covered the story about oceanographers (scientists) finding evidence of a “city” more than ½ mile down on the ocean floor way back in 2004, so this is bit of an update. In 2004, I had a lot of site traffic around the search for Noah’s ark and an alleged CIA photo of an object that some suspected was the ark on Mount Ararat,..

(Apologies to those who complain about long articles. Reading is fundamental :0) )

In some ways, we thought that this story and this evidence which initially were a series of side sonar images could be more impactful than finding the ark.
That is because the scientists willing to consider the find estimated because of the depth that it was from a civilization submerged 6,000 years ago. A submerged city 6,000 years old at a depth of ½ mile? That’s enough to chill the hearts of the coldest non-believers.

We thought that this was going to be a huge discovery that would rock the current scientific paradigm. It appears that we have been wrong, sitting here almost 20 years after our article collection appeared on the website and 21-22 years after the discovery.

How did science debunk it? How did they keep the current scientific dogma in place and ignore the clear implications? Why didn’t all heck break loose?
By ignoring it. By belittling it without investigation. By giving it the figurative “laugh emoji” as is done here and on my website without the need for scientific understanding or investigation.
Additional investigation has been done but there are not many scientists willing to put their reputations or careers in jeopardy by doing research on this topic. Research funds have been difficult to obtain.

Evidence of ancient city found in depths off Cuba 1/2 Mile Down

A team of Canadian and Cuban researchers have discovered the remains of what may be a 6,000-year-old city submerged in deep ocean waters off the western coast of Cuba.
Using sophisticated sonar and videotape equipment, offshore engineer Paulina Zelitsky, her husband, Paul Weinzweig, and her son, Ernesto Tapanes, have found megaliths "of a kind you'd find at Stonehenge or Easter Island," Mr. Weinzweig said in an interview yesterday.

"Some structures within the complex may be as long as 400 meters wide and as high as 40 meters," he said. "Some are sitting on top of each other.

They show very distinct shapes and symmetrical designs of a non-natural kind. We've shown them to scientists in Cuba, the U.S. and elsewhere, and nobody has suggested they are natural."
Moreover, an anthropologist affiliated with the Cuban Academy of Sciences has said that still photos taken from the videotape clearly show "symbols and inscriptions," Mr. Weinzweig said. It is not yet known in what language the inscriptions are written.

The sonar images, he added, bear a remarkable resemblance to the pyramidal design of Mayan and Aztec temples in Mexico. Mr. Weinzweig said it is too early to draw firm conclusions from the evidence collected so far.
The research team plans another foray to the site -- off the Guanahacabibes Peninsula on Cuba's western tip -- next month. Next summer, it hopes to return again, this time with the first deep-water mobile excavator, equipped with functions needed for on-site archeological evaluation, including the ability to blow sand off stone.

Geologists have recently hypothesized that a land bridge once connected Cuba to Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. And portions of the Cuban island are believed to have been submerged in the sea on three separate occasions in the distant past.

The structures are on a plateau that forms the bottom of what is thought to be a mud volcano, 650 to 700 meters beneath the surface of the ocean and along what is clearly a geological fault line.

"It's well known that ancient civilizations liked to build at the base of volcanoes, because the land is fertile. So that's suggestive," Mr. Weinzweig said.

One tantalizing possibility, entirely speculative for now, is that if the legendary sunken continent of Atlantis is ever proven to have existed, these structures may have been submerged during the same cataclysm.

Mr. Weinzweig simply says that more information is needed. "We'd prefer to stay away from that subject. This is something of great potential scientific interest, but it must involve serious authorities on ancient civilizations."
The precise age of the underwater site is also unknown, although Cuban archeologists in 1966 excavated a land-based megalithic structure on the western coast, close to the new underwater discovery, said to date from 4000 BC.

"Based on that and other geological information, we're speculating that these are 6,000 years old," he explained. "It's not exact, but they're very ancient."

If that dating estimate proves accurate, it would mean that an ancient civilization had designed and erected these vast stone structures in the Americas only 500 years after human settlements first became organized in cities and states.
They would also have been built long before the wheel was invented in Sumeria (3500 BC), or the sundial in Egypt (3000 BC). The three pyramids on Egypt's Giza plateau are thought to have been constructed between 2900 and 2200 BC.

The couple's Havana-based company, Advanced Digital Communications, discovered the site in July of 2000, using side-scan sonar equipment to view what resembled an underwater city, complete with roads, buildings and pyramids.
The team returned this past summer with a 1.3-tonne, unmanned Remotely Operated Vehicle, controlled from the mother ship via fiber-optic cable. Its cameras confirmed the earlier findings, showing vast granite-like blocks, between two and five meters in length, that were cut in perpendicular and circular designs.

But because of technical problems, Mr. Weinzweig said, "we were only able to survey the perimeter of the site.

Based on initial explorations, we think it's much larger than even our sonar projections show. It may extend for several kilometers."

In addition to the archeological site, ADC has been exploring what Mr. Weinzweig calls "the richest underwater cemetery in the world" for sunken Spanish galleons. Hundreds of treasure-bearing ships are said to lie around the island, several hundred to several thousand meters deep.

Last year, off Havana Bay, it found the remains of USS Maine, the battleship that blew up in 1898. That incident, never entirely explained, killed 260 sailors and precipitated the Spanish-American War.

Explorers Return to Study 'City'
On Ocean Floor Off Cuba

HAVANA- Floating aboard the Spanish trawler she chartered to explore the Cuban coast for shipwrecks, Paulina Zelitsky pores over yellowed tomes filled with sketches and tales of lost cities - just like the one she believes she has found deep off the coast of western Cuba.

Zelitsky's eyes grow wide as she runs her small hand over water- stained drawings of Olmec temples in a dog-eared 1928 study of Mexican archaeology.

The Russian Canadian explorer compares the shapes with green-tinted sonar images captured in March while studying the megalithic structures she discovered two years ago off Cuba's Guanahabibes Peninsula.

Amid piles of sonar-enhanced maps is a well-worn copy of "Comentarios Reales de las Incas," or "Royal Commentaries of the Incas," a classic of Spanish Renaissance narrative by the son of an Inca princess and a Spanish conquistador. Zelitsky is particularly fascinated by Garcilaso Inca de la Vega's account of ancient ruins at the bottom of Lake Titicaca, Peru.

"You would not think that a reasonable woman of my age would fall for an idea like this," chuckled Zelitsky, a 57-year-old offshore engineer who runs the exploration firm Advanced Digital Communications of British Columbia, Canada.
Zelitsky passionately believes the megalithic structures her crew discovered 2,310 feet below the ocean's surface could prove that a civilization lived thousands of years ago on an island or stretch of land joining the archipelago of Cuba with Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, about 120 miles away.

The unusual shapes first appeared on the firm's sophisticated side-scan sonar equipment in the summer of 2000, during shipwreck surveys off Cuba's western coast, where hundreds of vessels are believed to have sunk over the centuries.
The company is among five foreign firms working with Fidel Castro's government to explore the island's coast for shipwrecks of historical and commercial interest. But the mysterious shapes have become the focus of this crew's exploratory efforts.

Puzzled by the shapes with clean lines, the team has repeatedly returned to the site - most recently in March - for more sonar readings, more videotapes of the megaliths with an unmanned submarine. The crew left in mid-May for a month.
Evidence for Zelitzky's hypothesis is far from conclusive and has been met with skepticism from scientists from other countries who nevertheless decline to comment publicly on the project until scientific findings have been made available.

Submerged urban ruins have never been found at so great a depth.

Elsewhere in the Caribbean, the ruins of Jamaica's Port Royal are located at depths ranging from a few inches to 40 feet below the ocean surface. The once raucous seaside community was controlled by English buccaneers before it slid under the waves in earthquakes beginning in 1692.

Located at just 20 feet are the mysterious megalithic structures discovered in the 1960s and 1970s in the sound between the Bahamas islands of North and South Bimini. Scientific expeditions there have produced inconclusive results about the shapes' origins.

Back in Cuba, a leading scientist recently admitted there is no easy explanation for the megalithic shapes found by Zelitsky's crew. The shapes on the sonar maps look like walls, rectangles, pyramids - rather like a town viewed from the window of an airplane flying overhead.

"We are left with the very questions that prompted this expedition," geologist Manuel A. Iturralde Vincent, research director of Cuba's National Museum of Natural History wrote March 13. At the time he was visiting the area aboard the 270-foot-long Ulises, the Spanish trawler Zelitsky outfitted with sophisticated computer and satellite equipment for her surveys.

In his written comments, later delivered at a scholarly conference here, Iturralde concluded it was possible the structures were once at sea level, as Zelitsky theorizes.

Because of the large faults and an underwater volcano nearby, Zelitsky supposes the structures sank because of a dramatic volcanic or seismological event thousands of years ago.

Providing some support for that argument, Iturralde confirmed indications of "significantly strong seismic activity." Zelitsky shies from using the term "Atlantis," but comparisons are inevitable to the legendary sunken civilization that Plato described in his "Dialogues" around 360 B.C.

There have been untold, unsuccessful attempts over the ages to find that lost kingdom. One common theory is that Atlantis was located on the Aegean Island of Thera, which was destroyed by a volcanic eruption nearly 3,600 years ago.
Zelitsky does, however, mention known archaeological monuments when discussing her find.

Numerous photographs are scattered throughout a video show of the megaliths, showing well-known ancient sites: the 1st century fortress of Masada high above the Dead Sea, Britain's circular monument of Stonehenge, the Roman fortress of Babylon in Cairo, the walls of Chan Chan, Peru, whose inhabitants were conquered by the Incas.

Perhaps, Zelitsky mused, the megaliths off Cuba are remains of a trading post, or a city built by colonizers from Mesoamerica. Those civilizations were far more advanced than the hunters and gatherers the Spaniards found upon arriving here five centuries ago.

Zelitsky admitted much more investigation is needed to solve the mystery. But that doesn't keep her from believing, or from smiling slyly as she opens her agenda for 2002 to the first page.
Written there are the words Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei uttered under his breath at the height of the Inquisition, right after abjuring his belief that the Earth revolved around the sun.

Earlier this year, using a submersible, they were able to obtain samples of the underwater objects. "The stone we recovered from ocean bottom is very polished granite.
All of the peninsula of northwest part of Cuba, all of this peninsula is limestone, very fractured limestone. So, geologically, it (megalithic granite structures) is totally foreign to Cuba. But it's also not known in Yucatan because Yucatan is also limestone, not granite..."

We were initially contacted by Frank Martin Salichs in early December, 2012 The video he posted on YouTube is no longer there. Perhaps it was all debunked or an error.
He wrote:

“Hello. I’ve recently become convinced that God has preserved evidence of many pre-flood cities on the Earth’s ocean floors! I’ve discovered hundreds of miles of structures, and dozens of pyramids.
There are cities with miles of straight rows of structures. Here are a few of the vast number of undersea structures which are all over the world’s oceans. My goal is to expose these images as much as possible for the world to see. “Whereby the world which then was, being overflowed with water perished.”

Along with his note he included 10 or 15 photos purportedly showing underwater objects around the world in the shape of pyramids or other potentially man formed shaped.
Now, we don’t have a problem with the idea of underwater cities and monuments; one of the early stories we covered here at s8int.com concerned underwater pyramids and structures 1/2 mile down off the coast of Cuba. In fact we had a number of stories about that potential site”.

We still had questions about the “photos” he sent us. Were they actually photos? Graphics? What?

These are not photos, correct, Frank?

His response:
“That is correct. They are not photos. They are Googlearth6 images of underwater topography, and what I believe to be pyramids and man-made structures on the ocean’s floors. Googlearth6 provides an ocean application. You can explore the world’s oceans just like you would above ground with Googlearth6.

The satellite technology apparently creates accurate imagery of the topography. You can rotate your view and move around from place to place just like the above ground GooglEarth. Shallow bodies of water will not always allow underwater imagery. I’ve found several pyramids off the SOUTHEAST coast of Florida, one of them probably being the one that’s been reportedly located with sonar.

I’ll send you an image of it. I’ve also found 5 pyramids in the Bahamas.

Believe it or not, I’ve also found hundreds of pyramids off the eastern seaboard, from New foundland to South Carolina. More recently, I’ve found pyramids in, of all places, the Gulf of Mexico, from Mississippi to Texas.
I’ve saved images of pyramids, and what appear to be man-made structures, in the North and South Poles, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Here at S8int.com, we've known about all the Mothman and Owlman stories that have been told over the last 30 to 40 years but we weren't so sure that they had a place here in our collection of interesting facts and artifacts.

 

Perhaps we were thinking, this material is outside of our area of expertise? We decided to reconsider when we realized that we had no area of expertise! (Thanks mom!)

 

One thing that has struck us about these stories is how many times the details made us think about bipedal pterosaurs. If they still existed, they would certainly be large enough, frightening enough, would have the wings and the requisite clawed feet. They stood upright like a man. Consequently, they might have the requisite humanoid/birdlike aspect as well.

 

Look at the collection below. On the left, is one of the depictions of Mothman, drawn from eyewitness descriptions. In the middle is a 16th century Native American "thunderbird" representation. On the right is a pterosaur with wings outstretched rather than folded as are the other two.

 

Notice the similarities. If the pterosaur were to stand with his long neck bent below the level of the tops of his wings, he might appear to have no neck and his eyes would appear to be in his chest from straight on view This would be particularly true at night when most if not all of the sightings occurred. This article by Daniel V. Boudillion, may have helped stimulate our thinking in that direction.

 

Many animals have eyes that reflect light (like cats) which make them appear to glow.As you read the eyewitness encounters of mothman, owlman and of supposed pterosaurs, see if you agree that this animal would fit the witness descriptions--again particularly at night with frightened witnesses believing pterosaurs to be extinct.

 

We don't assert this pterosaur theory as fact--it’s just a hypothesis. It's also very possible that Mothman and Owlman are simply large owls or other "conventional" large birds. Judge for yourself.

 

Pterosaurs took off by swaying backwards on to their hindlimbs, then they quickly extended their wings and, leaning forward, walked or trotted into the breeze. By now the wings were already developing lift and helping to support the animal, and, with a push from their hindlimbs, they would be up and away. This would work well for most pterosaurs, especially the larger ones. Small pterosaurs probably lived on tress and cliffs and could easily have become airborne by launching themselves into the air from a high point.

 

Pterosaurs probably flew at similar speeds to birds and bats so most probably travelled at no more than 10-15 kph. However, some of the giant forms could probably fly a lot faster if necessary and speeds of 50 kph or more would not be unreasonable.....Dr David Unwin

 

The Story of Mothman

 

The first sighting came in the early 1960s.

 

A woman was driving along Route 2, near the Ohio River, with her father. As she neared the Chief Cornstalk Hunting Grounds, a large man-shaped figure walked out onto the road.

 

As the woman slowed her car, the figure spread two large wings and took off. Ironically, the witness did not report the incident - "Who would believe us, anyway?"

 

The first sighting which received publicity, though, was one in 1965. A woman living near the Ohio River related how her son had told her one day of seeing "an angel" outside. She thought nothing more of it until about a year later.

 

In the summer of 1966, a doctor's wife in the same general area said that she had seen a six-foot long thing resembling a "giant butterfly".

 

The weird events connected to the Mothman began on November 12, 1966 near Clendenin, West Virginia. Five men were in the local cemetery that day, preparing a grave for a burial, when something that looked like a brown human being lifted off from some nearby trees and flew over their heads. The men were baffled. It did not appear to be a bird, but more like a man with wings.

 

Late in the evening of November 15, two young married couples had a very strange encounter as they drove past an abandoned TNT plant near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The couples spotted two large eyes that were attached to something that was "shaped like a man, but bigger, maybe six or seven feet tall. And it had big wings folded against its back".

 

When the creature moved toward the plant door, the couples panicked and sped away. Moments later, they saw the same creature on a hillside near the road. It spread its wings and rose into the air, following with their car, which by now was traveling at over 100 miles per hour.

 

The bird seemd to fly as fast as the car and followed them down Highway 62 and right to the Point Pleasant city limits.

 

Another group of four witnesses claimed to see this bird creature three different times!

 

At about 10:30 on November 15, Newell Partridge, a local building contractor who lived in Salem (about 90 miles from Point Pleasant), was watching television when the screen suddenly went dark. When the TV tube went blank, it was replaced with a fine herringbone design that glowed faintly. A humming sound could be heard from the TV speaker as this went on. Partridge's dog, Bandit, was barking viciously outside so he grabbed a flashlight to investigate.

 

Once outside, Partridge shined the flashlight towards the barn - the direction Bandit was barking. What captured his attention in the beam of light was a large man-like figure with eyes that shone like red bicycle reflectors.

 

He and Bandit began to head toward the barn when a sense of dread, paranoia and incredible fear overcame him. He described the sensation he felt as "unnatural." He was afraid, but this type of fear was almost hallucinogenic.

 

He hurried back to the house and closed the door. He spent the rest of the night with a loaded shotgun in his bed. When Partridge awoke the next morning, he went in search of clues as to what might of happened the previous night. Bandit's tracks led straight to the spot where the creature was seen near the barn. The dog's tracks went round and round in the same spot but never left the area. Bandit was never heard from again.

 

The next night, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Scarberry and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mallette were driving near the "TNT Area", near the town of Point Pleasant. A tall figure stood by the side of the road. "It was shaped like a man, but bigger," said Mr. Scarberry.

 

"Maybe six and a half or seven feet tall. And it had big wings folded against its back." His wife commented on its huge red eyes, "like automobile reflectors."

 

Mr. Scarberry, who was driving, took off in his car at "better than a hundred miles per hour," the figure spread its wings and flew after the car. It didn't seem to flap its wings at all, and its wingspan was over ten feet.

 

Mrs. Mallette said that it made a squeaking sound, "like a big mouse." The four also noted that a dead dog had been lying by the side of the road, but was gone when they returned.

 

They went to the offices of the Mason County sheriff and reported their sighting. Deputy Millard Halstead returned to the TNT Area with the four, and said that as he passed the spot where they had initially seen the figure, his police radio made a sound similar to a speeded-up record.

 

The TNT Area, which seemed to be a sort of home for the "Mothman," as it was quickly dubbed by the press, is a large tract of land. Small concrete "igloos" dot the landscape, used during World War II to store ammunition. The TNT Area is adjacent to the 2,500 acre McClintic Wildlife Station. The entire area is covered with dense forest, steep hills, and riddled with tunnels.

 

The area is also sparsely populated. One of the families living in the area is that of Ralph Thomas. On the 16th, at about 9:00 pm, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wamsley, Mrs. Marcella Bennett, and Mrs. Bennett's daughter, Tina, were visiting the Thomases. On the way there, they watched a red light which circled the TNT Area.

 

When the car pulled up in front of the Thomas', it disturbed something. It seemed as if it had been lying down. It rose up slowly from the ground. A big gray thing. Bigger than a man, with terrible glowing red eyes.

 

The witnesses ran to the Thomas home, where they were let in by the three children. The figure shuffled along behind them, coming onto the porch and looking through the window. Mr. Wamsley called the police, but the thing had, of course, vanished by the time they arrived.

 

Mrs. Bennett, who lives at the edge of Point Pleasant, says she has heard the creature on other occasions. She describes the sound it makes as "like a woman screaming."

 

Paul Yoder and Ben Enochs, two firemen, said they had seen Mothman in the TNT Area on the 18th. Richard West, of Charleston, called the police on November 21. A winged figure was sitting on the roof of his neighbor's house, he said. The six-foot tall figure had a wingspan of six or eight feet and red eyes. It took off straight up, "like a helicopter."

 

Tom Ury was driving along Route 62, near the TNT Area, on the morning of November 25. He saw a large, grayish figure standing in a field. Then it spread two large wings, lifted straight into the air, and flew over Ury's car at an altitude "three telephone poles high"--probably about 50 or 60 feet.

 

The next day, Mrs. Ruth Foster of St. Albans said the creature was standing in her yard near her porch. Her description tallys with West's. The same day, people in Lowell, Ohio, saw several large birds flying over Cat's Creek.

 

The three witnesses followed the birds in their car and said that they were "...dark brown with some light flecks. Their breasts were gray and they had five- or six-inch bills, straight, not curved like those of hawks or vultures." The birds seemed to have reddish heads.

 

And still more sightings came. On November 27, on the way home from church, Connie Carpenter saw a grayish figure standing on the golf course near Mason. The creature took off and flew straight towards her car. She was one of few who actually saw the creature's face, although her description--"It was horrible"--doesn't help much.

 

Another sighting took place that same night in St. Albans, where two girls saw the creature near a junkyard. The creature flew after them.

 

On December 4, five pilots at the Gallipolis, Ohio, airport saw some sort of giant bird flying at about 70 miles per hour. Its wings weren't moving, and unlike other witnesses they commented on a long neck.

 

Mabel McDaniel (coincidentally, mother of Linda Scarberry, one of the first witnesses) saw Mothman on January 11, 1967. Mrs. McDaniel said that at first the creature looked like "an airplane, then I realized it was flying much too low. It was brown and had a wingspread of at least ten feet."

 

In March, an Ohio man claimed his car was chased by a flying creature.

 

The last sighting seems to have come on November 2, shortly after noon. Mrs. Ralph Thomas (from Bennett's sighting) heard a "squeaky fan belt" outside her home and saw a "tall gray figure" moving among the concrete domes in the TNT Area.

 

Scattered sightings continued for several years afterwards. In 1968, especially, a number of hairy humanoids with glowing eyes were seen on Jerrico Road. And on September 18, people in the TNT Area supposedly saw Mothman once more--putting in his last appearance, it seems.

 

....But no discussion of the Mothman phenomenon would be complete without recounting the story of the Silver Bridge. On the evening of December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge, which crossed the Ohio River at Point Pleasant, collapsed in rush-hour traffic. Over forty-six cars fell into the river. It was the biggest disaster ever to hit Point Pleasant.

 

Of course, it was only a matter of time before people began to connect this disaster with the Mothman sightings. Was Mothman some sort of warning sign of the impending disaster? Was the entire saga somehow connected with the UFOs seen in the area?

 

As a final postscript, New Haven farmer Ernest Adkins reported something very odd indeed in April of 1969. He found his eleven-week-old beagle lying dead in his front yard. "There was no evidence the dog died in a fight," Adkins said. What made it strange was the fact that the dog's chest was chewed open, and its heart was lying outside.

 

Not surprisingly, most scientists scoffed at this theory. They said it was probably just some normal kind of bird; the favored culprit was a sandhill crane. These large birds have reddish patches on their heads (accounting for Mothman's "red eyes") and a large specimen would reach roughly the size attributed to Mothman.

 

But other birds were found in the area that could account for the sightings. In July of 1967, several boys found a large vulture near New Haven. And at Gallipolis Ferry, a farmer shot a rare bird indeed--an Arctic snow owl. The owl was two feet tall and had a five-foot wingspan.

PTERODACTYLS OVER WISCONSIN

 

Kevin W., 25, was staring out the 10 foot bay windows on an upper floor of Brookfield's Elmbrook Memorial Hospital.

 

He was alone, pacing the waiting room, awaiting the birth of his first child. He couldn't have guessed that what he was about to glimpse in the clouds that overcast day would cause him to question his very sanity.

 

 

From high on the bluff, looking out the windows, Kevin had a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. A black form dipping in and out of the clouds first caught his attention. If it was an airplane, it meant trouble, because it was flying dangerously low. Kevin stopped pacing to track the object's flight.

 

A full body suddenly emerged from dense clouds. Startled, Kevin realized that it wasn't an airplane. It looked very much like a large bird.

 

At first he couldn't believe his eyes, but then doubt turned to fear as it steadily flew nearer.

 

"I wanted to run out of the room, but I couldn't move," he says. Whatever it was, "it was bigger than a full-size pickup truck, but smaller than a Piper Cub plane."

 

On hunting trips to northern Wisconsin he had seen other large birds, but none had compared to this mysterious creature. "It was no blue heron," he says.

 

The enormous creature continued sailing closer. It did not flap its wings, but glided on air currents, always just underneath the clouds, as if "using them for cover." Kevin estimates the creature's wingspan was 12 to 15 feet across, with a similar span from its head to the tip of its tail.

 

It glided in clear view for about a minute, coming within 100 yards of the hospital windows. Kevin started to call out to attract the attention of others, to verify what he was seeing, but froze when he felt as if the creature had sensed his presence.

 

"At some point, I was aware that it was aware of me," he says. Immobilized, he watched as the enormous creature turned its head, locking in on him standing exposed behind the broad sheet of glass.

 

Then, as suddenly, as if knowing it had been spotted, the creature soared back into the covering clouds. Kevin could only shake his head, thinking, "Could I really be stressed out enough to have imagined this?"

 

Over the next several minutes, Kevin sat as close to the door and as far away from the window as possible. He wanted to ensure a quick exit should the bird reappear. Warily, he scanned the skies, replaying the scene in his head again and again.

 

Had he imagined it?

 

A huge bird was one thing, but what he had seen was far stranger yet. As he sat thinking about his experience, he even considered seeing a psychiatrist. He just couldn't get the pointy, aerodynamic head of the creature out of his mind.

 

"I couldn't make out any feathers," he says. "It was more bat-like."

 

Not a normal bird, even for an abnormally large one. Kevin believes the creature he saw that cloudy day in 1988 is related to a species of long-extinct flying reptiles, something like the Pterodactyl — a pre-historic monster, winging over the city of Brookfield.

 

"I've never had any other type of weird experience and I wasn't under any real duress at the time," he says. At the time of his experience, Kevin had recently received his associate degree in police science. He had honed his observation skills to help him catch shoplifters in a previous job as a department store security officer.

 

Following his experience, Kevin served as a petty officer with an aircraft carrier task group during the Gulf War. That position required him to familiarize himself with all kinds of aircraft and flight patterns. He was, and is, a trained observer.

 

He knows he didn't see an airplane that day. If it was a fantasy, he has no explanation for why he'd fantasize something so bizarre, a winged monster over Brookfield. In the intervening years he's come to a shrugging acceptance of his sighting, but acceptance brings him no closer to an explanation of what he saw that cloudy end of summer day.

An Illinois Sighting
(1969) Park Forest, IL

 

I along with four of my friends saw a pteradon about three to four feet tall through the body around April of 1969 as memory serves it might have been 1970.

 

I do recall we were riding in my friends 1969 Boss Mustang.

 

We were on a gravel road south of Park Forest, Illinois. A small suburb on the south side of Chicago. At that time there was nothing but country and farmland south of Park Forest. We were heading west on Steunkle road going to Monee Ill.

 

We were in the valley a few houses west of were I used to live as a boy, I was like 17 or 18 years old. It was a foggy night, really thick blanket of fog close to the ground, as we started up the hill we emerged from the fog and it was a crystal clear night with a full or almost full moon and lots of stars.

 

We were driving along and my friend just slowed down and stopped the car. He leaned up over the steering wheel and stared at an angle out of the windshield.

 

I asked him what he was doing and he didn't answer me he just kept staring out the windshield, so I leaned forward and looked up and out of the wind shield and shilouetted against the full moon, sitting on the top of a telephone pole was this pterodon.

 

The body was covered with fur like a bat, It had its wings folded up tight against it's sides and you could see little claws at the top of each folded wing.

 

It had a tail similar in length to that of a cat in comparison to the body size, but it was smooth like a rats tail except for a single tuft of hair at the very end.

 

As we sat there watching it, it was looking to the left and then to the right and then it would look off across the golf course to the north. The whole time it was switching it's tail around like a cat does when they are agravated, very nervous movements. The neck and head were smooth leather like, no hair at all.

 

... I don't know exactly how long we sat there watching it probably only a few minutes but it eventually looked down at us in the car and then threw its head back opened its mouth, showing very impressive teeth and let out a blood curtling screech and with three flaps of it's wings did a half back over twist and sailed silently out over the field headed toward a large marsh south of our position and dissappeared into the fog.

 

We were only 30 feet from the base of the phone pole and the pole was probably only 20 to 25 feet tall, so we were very close and got a real good look at the thing.

 

Over the years I have only shared this information with a few close friends and they treat me like I'm nuts. I am still friends with two of the guys I was with that night but we have never talked about what we saw that night.
