The giant human being that were lately found, 50 feet under ground in Williamson county, Tennessee, have been put together, nearly all perfect and are ready for exhibition.
The skeleton measured 16 feet in length.

 

FAYETTEVILLE TOWN, March 24, 1859

A Subterraneous vault was discovered last week at Jackson, Ohio, in which the air was so impure that it was impossible for any one to go down into it.

By means of a rake, human bones of gigantic size have been raised, and a small chain of silver, with coins attached to each end.-

The coins, though much defaced by time, have the appearance of those in use among the Romans in the days of Scipio Africanus, though there were evident traces of hieroglyphic devices that cannot be deciphered.

GIGANTIC SKELETON.

Extract of a letter dated Pittsburg, July 23, 1836.

Dear Sir- I lose no time in communicating for the information of the Pennsylvania Lyceum, and indeed of the public, if you think proper to make it publicly known, the following extract of a letter from the Hon. Judge Wilkins, of Tecumseh, Michigan. The letter is under date of the 21st.

To the Cor. Sec. of the Pennsylvania Lyceum.

John, Feret, who resides about a mile from this village, in digging a well lately, about fifteen feet below the surface of the earth, came across a skeleton of prodigious size.

Dr. Sturges and Dr. Patterson both pronounced it a human skeleton of gigantic proportions, and necessarily of a genus long since extinct and corresponding with the mastodon or mammoth in the brute order.
The thigh bone is two feet and three inches in length, and the skull is frightful. One of the teeth, a grinder, is enormous, and is in a perfect state of preservation.

It is as large as the cork of porter bottle, with two prongs and indented exactly like a human tooth.

The workmen hare not yet completed the extraction of all the bones, and great excitement prevails. Two medical men from New York have offered the owner of the farm 100 dollars for the skeleton, which our doctors have advised him to refuse.

Finds Gigantic Human Skeleton
(By United Press Leased Wire.)
PRESCOTT, Ariz., Aug. 5.

—The skeleton of a human being twice as large an any man living today was found here by Peter Marx on his farm northwest of Prescott.

The skull is complete and in the jaws are teeth tusk-like in size. The bones do not resemble those of ancient tribes found in Verde and other valleys of this country.

A Tennessee Giant's Bones.

A Nashville dispatch to Cincinnati Times-Star says:
" John Park, a Justice of the Peace of White County, while working in a field discovered a grave neatly walled in with rock, and on removing the stone the remains of a giant were found.

Mr. Park carefully measured the skeleton, three feet around the breast, and about two feet across where the thigh bones intersect with the body.

Only a few of bones were in such a state of preservation as to be handled.

He took out and has now at his house the bones of the legs, arms, and ribs, which are very large, and he also found some of the teeth, which were comparatively sound.

The grave was neatly walled up with rock, and it has been arched over the top. On the inside of the masonry was a large amount of charcoal in excellent state of preservation, and which seemed to have been burnt from poplar wood.

The field in which the grave was found has been cultivated about eighty-five years.

SEPULCHER UNEARTHED- Containing the Skeletons of Prehistoric Giants.

Pine Grove. Evidences of a pre-historic race have been uncovered by Hugh Yates, a prosperous land owner of this county, on his farm, a few miles west of here.
While excavating beneath a high cliff on his place Mr. Yates came upon an immense grave containing a human skeleton.

The frame was of giant proportions.

His curiosity aroused, Mr. Yates called in some neighbors, and, armed with picks, they burrowed their way into the side of the cliff and found an ancient sepulcher crowded with human skeletons, some of them larger than the one first found.

One of the frames measured 12 feet.

Along with the skeletons were found curiously wrought jewels and strange ornaments, while cooking vessels and musical instruments of queer design were unearthed in great profusion.
The diggers are still at work and expect to make even more important finds.

Military prisoners digging at Vaudan Court, near Paris, discovered a tomb thousands of years old, of unpolished slabs of stone, filled with human bones of gigantic proportions.

The skulls were oval and the teeth resembled those of a horse. Archeologists say the tomb dates back to the copper age.

A GIGANTIC SKELETON.

The Dunn County News gives an interesting account of discoveries made at Shetek, Barron County, Wis., by some workmen who were taking dirt from one of the numerous mounds in that vicinity.
In the course of their work they unearthed a human skeleton of immense size-fully nine feet long.

On his breast was found a flint spear head, as broad as the hand at one end and tapering to a point at the other; and by his side several arrowheads and & copper hatchet.

was found. The men who were digging becoming interested, unearthed the entire skeleton, and from measurements given us by reliable parties the frame of the man to whom it belonged could not have been less than eight or nine feet in height.

Under the skull, which easily slipped over the head of our informant (who we will here state, is one of our best citizens) was found a peculiarly shaped earthen jar, resembling nothing in the way of Indian pottery which had been seen by them.

It was exactly the shape of the round-bodied, long-necked carafes or water decanters, a specimen of which may be seen on Gaston’s dining-table.

The material of which the vase is made was a peculiar kind of clay, and the workmanship was very fine.

The belly or body of it ornamented with figures or hieroglyphics consisting of a correct delineation of human hands, parallel to each other, open palm outward running up and down the vase, the wrists to the base and the fingers towards the neck.

On either side of the hands were tibia or thigh bones also correctly delineated, running around the vase.

There were other things found with the skeleton, but this is all that our informant remembers. Since that time, wherever an excavation has been made is Chickasaw country in the neighborhood of the mound…….

An interesting discovery has been made at Founhope, near Hereford.

Mr. Stone, builder, has been engaged for some time in the restoration of St. Mary's Church there.

On Thursday morning, whilst his men were excavating beneath the church they came upon a brick vault with an arched roof, and in this vault was found a handsome oak coffin of extraordinary length and breadth.

The coffin crumbled to pieces when touched, disclosing a human skeleton of gigantic proportions, which, when the air struck it, dissolved into dust.

The length of the body from head to feet was nearly 8 feet 6 inches, and the breadth 3 feet 6 inches.

Relics Found

Waco, Tex., Jan. 31.-A force of graders working under the direction of Capt. Stephen Turner, the city engineer, while cutting through a hill to bring North Eighth street to a better level, opened an ancient cemetery which contains relics which some people regard as being the work of the mound builders.

Most of the specimens are stone.

There are weapons of war and the chase, beads and tools of prehistoric artisans. The curiosities were appropriated by people who collected rapidly at the scene of the find.

The city engineer collected a portion of the relics and turned them over to Baylor University. The trunk of a mastodon was found among the human bones and other antiquities.

One article discovered in the pit is a curved piece of metal encrusted with pebbles, clay and shells, having the appearance of a sword blade. About a bushel of flint spears and arrowheads was dug out of the hill.

For twenty years or more excavators hereabouts have been making discoveries of prehistoric animals and all sorts of weapons and tools.

City engineer Turner thinks a grand discovery will yet be made in digging around Waco which will startle the scientists of the world.

The owners of the Cardiff Giant can take him up into the back attic now and make room for the Oil City Times’ latest sensation; an enormous human skeleton which it has exhumed about twelve feet below the surface of ground, near West Hickory, in Pennsylvania.

According to the narrative, William Thompson and Robert B. Smith were making an excavation some ten days ago for the purpose of erecting a derrick, when they dug up an enormous helmet of iron, which was corroded with rust.

Further digging brought to light a sword which measured nine feet in length. Curiosity incited them to enlarge the bole, and alter some little time they discovered the bones of two enormous feet.

Following up the “lead” they had so unexpectedly struck, in a few hours’ time they had unearthed a well-preserved skeleton of an enormous giant, belonging to a species to the human family which probably inhabited this and other parts of the world at that time of which the Bible speaks, when it says: “And there were giants in those days. ”

The helmet is said to be of the shape of those found among the ruins of Nineveh. The bones if the skeleton are remarkably white, which shows that the monster was thoroughbred and belonged to the first families.

The teeth are all In their places, and all of them are double and of extraordinary size. These relics have been taken to Tionesta, where they are visited by large numbers of people daily.

When his giantship was in the flesh he must have stood eighteen feet in his stockings. These remarkable relics will be forwarded to New York early next week. Of course they were found under a mound thrown up a good many centuries ago. _
