"Three identical large basins were reported to have been found with the present one. One of them bears an inscription that associates the vessel with Fuchai, the last king of the Wu state who reigned from 495to 473 B.C.
Both the inscription and the decorative style of these basins support a date no later than the early fifth century B.C. for the group.
Although the surface is heavily encrusted with patches of blue, green, and brownish red patina, the size of this vessel makes it powerful and impressive.
The uniform surface decoration, a raised comma pattern that covers much of the basin, if offset by the strongly arched silhouette of the TIGERS climbing up the sides to peer over the brim.
