Atheist Richard Dawkins Finds His Unicorn and Other Stories

"Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?  Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?  Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?'

Famous Atheist Richard Dawkins has issued more than a few sarcastic challenges or statements about God or the Bible intended to denigrate or ridicule the faith and beliefs of Christianity in his books or public statements. Already in his short career as the leading non-believer quite a number of his sarcastic challenges have been met or his  sarcastic  statements have, embarrassing for him been proven wrong.

For instance, he famously wondered why God would have left all that “useless” DNA code in the cells of the living which at the time, evolutionists considered to be literally ”junk  left over from the “evolutionary process” with little or no function.

"Once again, creationists might spend some earnest time speculating on why the Creator should bother to litter genomes with untranslated pseudogenes and junk tandem repeat DNA". (The Information Challenge, 2001)

"What pseudogenes are useful for is embarrassing creationists. It stretches even their creative ingenuity to make a convincing reason why an intelligent designer should have created a pseudogene — a gene that does absolutely nothing and gives every appearance of being a superannuated version of a gene that used to do something — unless he was deliberately setting out to fool us." (Greatest Show on Earth, 2009)

But it was science itself that began to find the very important and critical roles that so-called Junk DNA plays. Today, the term junk DNA is understood to have been an indication of the then scientific ignorance about DNA and genes and as time goes on more and more function for so-called non-coding DNA is being understood.

There is no need to now go into how Dawkins proved to be wrong about the “upside-down” design of the human eye which is now better understood to be incredible engineering and optimally designed.

The Apparent Non-Existence of Unicorns as Objects of Ridicule for the Un-Faithed

Dawkins regularly uses unicorns and “flying spaghetti monsters” etc.  in his rhetoric regarding God and the bible suggesting that though all can agree that they don’t exist there is no way to prove that they don’t.

In a 2009 Article entitled “The Great Unicorn Hunt” he describes a summer camp for humanists’ children in which they engage in a hunt for invisible unicorns which “cannot be seen, heard, felt or smelt, and do not leave a trace”. From the article:

“Any child who can successfully prove that the invisible unicorns do not exist is rewarded with a prize: a £10 note with a picture of Charles Darwin on it signed by Richard Dawkins, or a "godless" $100 bill, printed before 1957 when "In God We Trust" was added to paper currency in the US.

Since this challenge began in 1996, the prize has been unclaimed.”

Dawkins is not the only one to be wrong on yet this  topic; sarcasm wasted. Bible translators have had the same issue since Latin translations of the Bible used the word monoceros for the Hebrew word “re'em,” translated as unicorn by King James. As time had gone on no one was sure what a  “re'em was other than some one horned animal. That’s what the Latin word Monoceros means; one horn. The Latin Bible turned the Greek “monokeros” into “unicornis.” In the 17th century A.D..

The Bible is merely describing a one horned creature that everyone understood and recognized at the time it was written but which was later lost. Bible translators, trying to “protect” scripture used alternate terms such as “wild ox”, wild bull", "buffalo" or "rhinoceros.

“Unicorn” it was felt by some translators would expose the Bible to the kind of ridicule that Dawkins specialized in and so they bailed and used less controversial alternatives. The exact same thing happened with regard to the Hebrew word; tannin, which is translated alternatively as sea serpent, dinosaur, snake, dragon, or Jackal. It would take some courage by translators to hew to sea serpent or dragon meanings in biblical text.

Mythological Aspects and Descriptions of the Unicorn Come from Outside Scripture

It should also be remembered that the Bible does describe some attributes of the “re'em or the monoceros or unicorn but the mythological descriptions and imagination concerning what the unicorn looked like come from outside the Bible.

However, the unicorn did exist and we have its fossils to prove it! Keep your signed  £10 note with Richard Dawkins’s signature.

“When you mention unicorns, what picture do you think of? Or many are horse-shaped creatures with a single horn growing in the middle of the head that are common in Western myths and picture books.

But in fact, in oriental myths and legends, unicorns can be found very early. The Han Dynasty painted wooden unicorn is 35 cm high and 93.7 cm long. This beast moves forward and sprints, with a thick shape, head, horns, neck, back, and tail fluctuate in a well-proportioned manner, and the movements of its limbs change vividly, giving it a very mighty momentum.

The unicorn is a mythical beast in the legend. It is buried in the tomb and acts as a town tomb toward off evil spirits~

Conclusion

Archaeologists have confirmed that there was an actual distinctive one-horned creature that was very likely the “re'em or unicorn mentioned a number of times in the Bible. Neither the version pictured in the CNN article nor the sculpture from the tomb in Wuwei City -which look similar to each other look like creatures that anyone would want to fool around with. Despite CNN’s assurance that because it was “hairy and large” that it wasn’t “that” unicorn is a misdirection.  The Bible doesn’t mention if it was a “hairy” creature and we doubt that one can see hairiness on a fossil. It appears that this creature was around much later than 29,000 years ago, Try 2.000 years ago.
