Conditions have to be specific for the formation of fossils. Copious amounts of water are one requirement. Nearly instant burial is another requirement because if an animal dies in the ordinary course of living and dying or as a result of depredation its bones are likely to be eaten or scattered. Nearly fully intact fossilization's of large animals in large numbers would not be expected. In the absence of a very large catastrophic event fossilization's of large or even small animals might be expected to occur here and there-not is vast graveyards around the world.
As you read excerpts from this first article that describes the wild, wild west of paleontology and giant creature/dinosaur “mining” in the late 1800's ask yourself what kind of catastrophe would entomb in rock, giant flying creatures, giant land creatures such as giant reptiles and giant mammals as well as giant “whale-sized sharks and large fish simultaneously?
What catastrophe would fossilize six 100 foot-long dinosaurs simultaneously at one location? The author does adhere to the idea of animals existing prior to man but the evidence described supports the Biblical explanation.

“Washington July 3- Special Correspondence –Four weeks from now will be started for Washington the most extraordinary procession of animals ever seen on the face of the earth, upon which the ghosts of Barnum and Forepaugh might gaze with as wide-eyed astonishment as ever the spectacle of their own united shows excited in the innocent minds of rural adolescence.
In this wonderful parade will be gigantic reptiles as big as good-sized houses, some of them one hundred feet in length; flying dragons with a twenty-five foot spread of wings, huge birds with teeth, mammals two or three times as great in size as elephants, sharks as large as the hugest whales, other fishes clad in mighty plates of armor and countless other specimens of equal strangeness and enormous dimensions, such as actually inhabited the world before man arrived in it.
For nine years past the government has been digging up and putting together the skeletons of these strange creatures and now the vast collection, at present stored in New Haven, Conn. Is being made ready for shipment by rail to the National Museum.
The whole of it would occupy fully one-half of that institutions building here, and so only a portion is to be immediately forwarded and the rest to follow as soon as quarters have been established by Congress for its accommodation.
Prof. O.C. Marsh who directed the gathering of the Government collection (here) referred to as mines (fossil locations) of his own all over the West, from which he can draw to order the most astonishing variety of gigantic creatures.

Antediluvian Man Destroyed by Great Glacial Changes-Stupendous Forces at Work in Nature

“In connection with the astonishing revelations concerning the glacial period within a comparatively few thousand years, probably within 10,000 years, there have been changes of land level in the northern hemisphere due to forces which have now ceased to act and which are all out of proportion to those now in operation, says G. Frederick Wright in the Detroit News.
So generally have these earth movements been proved to have taken during and since the glacial period that they may fairly be supposed to have affected the area connected with early Biblical History.
During the glacial period 6,000,000 cubic miles of ice were piled up over a limited area in the northern hemisphere. The weight of this would amount to the stupendous sum of 24,000,000,000,000,000 tons, which is equal to twice that of the whole continent of North America and to nearly that of the whole of Asia.
The snow to constitute this ice came from water evaporated from the ocean, all of which was so to speak locked up on the ice-bound continents. The amount of water thus abstracted from the ocean and locked up on the land was sufficient to lower its whole level about 300 feet.
Thus, not only was this vast amount of pressure added to the continental area, but an equal amount was taken from the bed of the ocean. Thus it is easy to see that there would have to be a very marked readjustment in land levels.
The continents, overloaded with ice, would settle down and even the vast Asiatic continent on which the ice did not accumulate to any great extent would of its own weight sink to a lower level because of the removal of pressure from the bed of the ocean.
As the ice melted off again, and returned this vast amount of water again to the sea level, the original distribution of pressure was restored.
With such stupendous forces operating since man came into the world, we do not need to prove directly from science that any catastrophe like the flood overwhelmed the human race. It is enough that we have proved that the physical forces necessary to produce such a catastrophe were in the field and in operation during man’s early history.
The scientific facts show not only that there is nothing impossible in the occurrence of the flood, but that it is fairly probable that its reality can be established with a moderate amount of evidence.
As still further confirmatory of the Biblical account of the deluge we may note that from every hand there comes evidence that, in connection with the close of the glacial period, there was a great destruction of species of land animals all over North America, Europe and Central Asia, and that there is much evidence to show that in large portions of this area man himself shared in this destruction.
Apparently Paleolithic man largely, if not wholly, disappeared from America and Europe during the closing stages of the glacial period, since his remains are closely associated with those of the various animal species which became extinct at the time.
It is therefore a theory which can be held with a fair amount of confidence that antediluvian man, after having spread over all the northern hemisphere, was exterminated by the glacial changes in all the outlying provinces, so that the culminating catastrophe of the Noachian deluge found him limited to the great centers of early civilization in the valley of the Euphrates..........

“Some stir has recently been made by the discovery at Abbeville and Amiens, France. Of implements resembling the heads of spears and hatchets, in a geological stratum, associated with the bones of extinct animals.
A writer in the last number of Blackwood, having visited the locality and examined the specimens, gives us his views on their antiquity, in a carefully prepared essay, worthy the attention of who are interested in geological questions.
He acknowledges himself fully convinced of the human origin of these flints, and them argues the questions that rise in regard to their antiquity.
First, as to the supposed contemporaneousness with the bones of the extinct quadrupeds (dinosaurs s8intcom) with which they are found in juxtaposition, he says:
“The reader will have noticed in the account already given of the deposit enclosing the worked flints and the bones, that the materials are described a presenting all the signs of having been irregularly strewn and rudely deposited; indeed all the usually admitted indications of turbulent diluvial action.”
“We pray the readers to observe that it is far from our meaning here that we can disprove the contemporaneousness of the flint-shaping men and the great antediluvian quadrupeds.
We only assert—but assert confidently—that the phenomena utterly fail to prove it.
The burden of the case is with those who, treating the Diluvium as one and indivisible in most and of formation and date, accept the mere fact of the present association of it as evidence of co-existence in time.
If therefore, it can be shown on as interpretation of geology, in accordance with sound physical principles, that a redressing of the deposit may have taken place, the verdict must be that this co-existence in time, is not established, and the antediluvian antiquity of man must be cast out of the high court of science, with a verdict of Not Proven.”......................

An historical fragment of much interest and Importance has been brought to light through the researches of Professor Albert Clay, of Yale College.
Professor Clay has succeeded in interpreting the inscription, in Cuneiform Hebrew, on a small clay tablet tablet in the Pierpont Morgan library. The inscription was written by one
Azag-Aya, an Amorlte, who was a 'Junior- scribe' in the land of Auiurra, in Asia Minor. This territory extended roughly from the western boundary of Babylonia to the Mediterranean coast, and included what is now Palestine.
Azag-Aya was a contemporary of the patriarch Abraham, and the tablet he wrote he declares to be a copy or an original inscription which is estimated to date back, approximately, to the year 4000 B.C.
The tablet itself bears the date, 'the 28th day of the month Shobeth In the eleventh year of Ammiza duga,' which corresponds with the year 190U B.C. It consisted originally of eight columns of 480 lines, in all, but of these only portions of columns 1, 2, 7, and 8—01 lines in all— remain.
The writing on the clay tells the story of a deluge which, following a period of great drought, - swept the whole of humanity out of existence, with the exception of some few who were saved.
The narration bears a remarkable analogy to the Biblical account of the Flood, and is of particular Interest inasmuch as it completely stultifies the long-cherished theory that the story of Noah was derived by the Hebrews from Babylon.
It would now seem that the exact opposite was, the case and that the Babylonian narrative was taken from that of the Hebrews, it is a remarkable fact, however, that nearly all Oriental nations,
and many Western peoples, share in common a tradition of a great Deluge.
These traditions, though they may differ in detail, are, in their essentials, very nearly identical.
